Dan Lloyd heads Castle Combe warm-up

Championship leader Dan Lloyd proved to be the man to beat during Saturday morning’s warm-up session ahead of the latest rounds of the new TCR UK Championship at Castle Combe.

The WestCoast Racing driver had run second behind the Honda of Ollie Taylor during Friday testing but would emerge on top after the pair diced for honours in the first session of the day.

Taylor had looked good to repeat his Friday form when he moved to the top of the times in his Pyro Motorsport-run Civic Type-R in the closing minutes of the session but Lloyd was behind on track and immediately went quicker by 0.130s in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

That was just 0.002s down on the time Taylor had set on Friday.

The front two were noticeably quicker than the field behind, with Andreas Bäckman half a second off the pace in third place and Finlay Crocker – who missed the Friday running in his Civic – being the only other driver to lap within a second of the pace.

Jessica Bäckman in the third of the Volkswagens was fifth, with Derek Palmer the only one of the two Alfa Romeos to log a time in sixth spot.

Carl Swift, Stewart Lines, Lewis Kent and Darelle Wilson rounded out the top ten – although Kent was limited to just seven laps in his Hyundai.
