Darelle Wilson secures race two pole at Castle Combe

Darelle Wilson will start the second TCR UK Championship race of the weekend at Castle Combe from pole position after the provisional grid was released.

The DW Racing driver could only post the slowest time of those cars to take part in the session after going off track, leaving him with work to do in the opening race of the weekend.

However, Wilson’s misfortune in qualifying also worked in his favour when deciding the grid for race two, which is decided based on drivers second best qualifying times but with the top ten reversed.

Having been slowest of all, Wilson also posted the slowest second fastest time which means he will start from pole although that is dependent on repairs being carried out to his car following the incident that put him out of qualfying.

There is a surprise figure alongside Wilson on the grid in the shape of championship leader Dan Lloyd, who qualified second on the grid behind Ollie Taylor but only posted one ‘quick’ lap during the session, with his second fastest time being more than two seconds off his best.

It was a similar story for pole sitter Taylor, with his fastest lap in qualifying being noticeably quicker than his second fastest time. He will start from P9 on the grid Andreas Bäckman’s Volkswagen starting from tenth having posted the best of the second quickest laps with a time just 0.002s shy of his PB.

Having failed to take to the track in qualifying, Robert Gilmour will once again start from the back of the eleven car field.
