Adam Morgan pleased with return to form at Rockingham

Adam Morgan said he was pleased to return to form in the British Touring Car Championship after picking up third victory of the 2018 season at Rockingham.

The Ciceley Motorsport driver went into round seven of the season having failed to finish three of the previous six races; results that saw him lose ground in the race for the title.

Morgan showed the pace in his Mercedes A-Class in qualifying where he snared pole position for the first time, and he then produced a strong drive in the opening race to lead from start-to-finish.

Despite the additional ballast in his car, Morgan then added a second podium finish of the day with second behind Ash Sutton in race two, whilst eighth in race three allowed him to get more solid points on the board and lifted him to sixth in the championship standings.

Only Sutton has now won more races than Morgan this season.

“This has made up for a poor Snetterton,” he said. “To get my first pole and then a lights-to-flag win was mega and to then follow it up with P2 in the second race was great. Even in race three with the combination of the extra weight and the hard tyre, we picked up a decent eighth place to cap a brilliant weekend. We come away from Rockingham having got ourselves back into contention in the championship standings and with a car that is more or less in one piece.

“We’d had a bit of a slump at Croft and Snetterton and it was tough to have come away from the double points race with a DNF because that cost us some serious ground. We knew we had to perform here and the lads have done a great job on the car to get us back where we should be.

“Even though we have moved up the standings, we are still going to be carrying less weight than we could have done into Knockhill so hopefully we can have a good qualifying result there and then fight for more strong results on race day.”
