Andreas Wernersson not counting out championship after strong Karlskoga

Two podiums for Lestrup Racing’s Andreas Wernersson at Karlskoga means the 23-year-old is in hot contention for the 2018 STCC drivers’ title, lying in third place, ten points behind new leader Johan Kristoffersson with just two races left to go.

Wernersson took his debut victory at the opening round of the season at Knutstorp, and has been racking up the points since, and has become an unlikely contender for the championship against the dealer-backed powerhouses of PWR Racing and Kristoffersson Motorsport.

“It’s great to be third in the championship and only ten points from the lead,” said Wernersson to TouringCarTimes.

“We have great speed in the car and we are there. We just need some extra speed to fight for the victory. Hopefully the SEATs will get some more weight in their cars as they are too fast at the moment – we need some more speed in order to win the championship; we are missing one or two tenths each lap to PWR and Kristoffersson.”
