WestCoast to run Andreas Bäckman in SWR Honda at Croft

WestCoast Racing has announced that Andreas Bäckman will take over at the wheel of Sean Walkinshaw’s Honda Civic Type R FK2 for the penultimate meeting of the TCR UK championship season this weekend at Croft.

The decision was taken by the team because of the need to split the WestCoast cars between the Croft event and the STCC meeting at Rudskogen, where Fredrik Ekblom will continue his championship challenge.

With Ekblom using one of the WestCoast Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs, TCR UK leader Dan Lloyd and Jessica Bäckman will continue to race the other two in North Yorkshire with the Civic being brought into the WestCoast fold for the weekend.

Several personnel from Sean Walkinshaw Racing have travelled to Croft and will assist in running the car over the course of the weekend

“The late decision to compete in both series this weekend meant we had to look at a number of options regarding cars,” WestCoast team manager James Nixon said. “We were able to come to an arrangement with SWR for Andreas to take over the Honda and we’re grateful to Sean and the team for their willingness to work with us.

“We’re confident that Andreas can deliver a couple of good results on Sunday to help him in his bid to finish second in the drivers’ championship.”

Both Walkinshaw and Howard Fuller raced the Honda earlier in the season.
