Dan Lloyd remains unbeaten in second Croft warm up

Dan Lloyd once again set the pace in the second warm up session at Croft, outpacing his WestCoast Racing team-mate Andreas Bäckman by just over two-tenths of a second.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR driver posted a lap-time of 1:25.906 to remain unbeaten in all timed sessions so far today.

Bäckman, in the unfamiliar Honda Civic Type R FK2 TCR, was fractionally slower than champion-elect Lloyd, having set a 1:26.140, some 0.234 seconds shy of the pace-setting time.

Sister Jessica Bäckman had been the closest challenger to Lloyd throughout the majority of the 25-minute session, and set the second best time of the day early on. The Bäckman siblings bagged the most amount of laps, with Andreas managing 14 and Jessica 13.

Light rain hit the circuit entering the final quarter which made conditions tricky and improvements less likely. Still, Andreas Bäckman was able to find enough speed in the final sector of the lap to go second quickest.

Behind the top three, there was a big gap back to Stewart Lines’ Maximum Motorsport Cupra TCR, who ended the session fourth fastest, albeit 1.686 seconds off Lloyd’s overall pace.

He headed the Hyundai i30 N TCR of Lewis Kent in fifth, while championship contender Ollie Taylor rounded out the top six in his Pyro Motorsport Honda Civic Type R FK8.

Finlay Crocker made it out in the session after a gear selector issue curtailed his opening warm up running in the second Pyro Motorsport Civic. However, the Scotsman only managed two more laps than he did in the first session, finishing over three seconds slower than Lloyd.

Another with limited running in the first session, Darelle Wilson was slowest of all in his Vauxhall Astra TCR, with a time of 1:31.786, nearly six seconds adrift of top spot.

The official Free Practice session is scheduled to start at 13:50 BST.
