Hugo Nerman hopes to capitalise on title contender battle on race day

Hugo Nerman starts tomorrow’s first race at Mantorp Park from second position in the KMS Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR behind pole-sitter Andreas Wernersson, and hopes to be able to convert it into his first STCC victory as he starts surrounded by the championship contenders.

Wernersson is fourth in the standings and needs a strong weekend and trouble for his rivals to be able to secure a surprise title, while the two PWR Racing Cupras of Robert Dahlgren and Daniel Haglöf start Race 2 from the second row of the grid.

“It’s the first Volkswagen front row this year, so that’s good,” said Nerman to TouringCarTimes.

“It’ll be a fun race I think – Robert will try to advance but probably won’t take any risks, the same for (Daniel) Haglöf, as Andreas is right behind him in the championship.

“But then Andreas also can’t take too many risks, but he also needs to win, so it’ll be a hard race,” he added. “The dream though is hopefully they all take it easy and so I can just win the race.”
