New Ford Focus has great potential, says Andy Yan

Three-time CTCC drivers’ champion Andy Yan says the new Ford Focus CTCC car has great potential, after he overcame the hefty double ten-place penalty imposed by the organisers to finish seventh and fourth in the two races at Ningbo.

The Changan Ford FRD Team introduced the fourth-generation Focus saloon this weekend, complete with a brand-new Mountune-developed engine, but as a result all four drivers had to take a ten-place penalty in both races, and with a 17-car grid, that was almost dead last for the team’s drivers Andy Yan, Martin Cao, Rainey He and Josh Burdon.

“The new car feels good, but for sure we need more track time to try some different set-ups,” said Yan to TouringCarTimes.

“The car’s got good speed. It’s the first weekend for the car, so P7 on Saturday and P4 on Sunday were a good result,” he added.

“Overall I’m pretty satisfied with the car,” technical director Brian Ma added. “I think it shows we have a better foundation to start off from.”
