Colin Turkington to drive for Volkswagen at Wuhan

Three-time British Touring Car Championship drivers’ champion Colin Turkington will make his China Touring Car Championship debut this weekend, taking over from André Couto behind the wheel of one of SAIC VW333 Racing’s Volkswagen Lamando GTSs.

Turkington is the the team’s second international wild card entry of the season, as their regular international driver Rob Huff is unable to compete due to World Touring Car Cup regulations, which prevent a driver from racing or testing at the same circuit before or during a race meeting.

Just crowned as the 2018 champion on Sunday, Turkington has been drafted in to help support Volkswagen’s manufacturers’ championship charge alongside regulars Rodolfo Avila, Zhang Zhen Dong and Yang Fan. He’ll take over the car for the next two races at Wuhan and Tianma, which are both clashes with the World Touring Car Cup, with Rob Huff then taking back over the car for the season finale at the Shanghai International Circuit on November 25th.

Turkington will be one of two BTCC racers on the grid this weekend, with Adam Morgan returning at BAIC Senova, after racing with the team at Tianma earlier in the year in-place of Darryl O’Young.
