Dan Lloyd leads WestCoast 1-2-3 in Donington Park qualifying

Dan Lloyd has taken his fourth pole position of the 2018 TCR UK Touring Car Championship season at Donington Park, leading a perfect result for WestCoast Racing, with team-mates Andreas and Jessica Bäckman qualifying second and third, with Lloyd’s chief title rival Ollie Taylor qualifying fourth in his Pyro Motorsport Honda Civic TCR.

The WestCoast Racing Volkswagens dominated the session throughout, with Lloyd very quickly the first driver under the 1:11 barrier with a time of 1:10.683, improving his time two more times in the session to end up quickest of all with a time of 1:10.358.

Lloyd’s two Swedish team-mates Andreas Bäckman and sister Jessica Bäckman also showed good pace, joining Lloyd under the 1:11 barrier, with Andreas three-tenths behind Lloyd and Jessica just over half a second behind.

Lloyd’s chief title rival Ollie Taylor couldn’t match the pace of the ballast-free Volkswagens, with the Pyro Honda Civic FK8 TCR driver qualifying in fourth position, eight-tenths away.

Stewart Lines was the next best in his Maximum Motorsport Cupra TCR, setting the fifth fastest time, 1.3 seconds from Lloyd’s team at the end of the 30-minute session.

Darelle Wilson qualified sixth in his DW Racing Vauxhall Astra TCR, with Finlay Crocker the next fastest of the Hondas in seventh, 1.5 seconds from Lloyd.

Carl Swift was eighth in his Cupra TCR, with the Hyundai i30 N TCR of Lewis Kent ninth, and Josh Price’s Pyro Motorsport Honda Civic FK2 TCR rounding out the top ten.

Lloyd gains an additional 11 points for pole, with Taylor picking up seven, with Lloyd now extending his championship lead to 35 points with 80 available on race day.

The first race is scheduled for 13:15 BST (14:15 CEST) tomorrow.
