Jason Plato fastest on second day of Snetterton test

The second day of the mid-season Snetterton test mirrored the first with another Triple Eight MG one-two, this time with Jason Plato leading Sam Tordoff.

Plato’s best time of 1.57.248, set in the afternoon session, was 0.520 faster than his team-mate, and was the best time set over the two days.

The pair were also first and second on the timesheets on the morning of the second day.

Motorbase Performance’s Aron Smith took third in an encouraging showing for the Kent squad, with each of the three Ford Focus machines in the top 10 in the afternoon session. Mat Jackson was sixth, and Nick Tandy ninth.

Jack Goff continued his good form from yesterday, setting the third best time in the morning, and the eighth best time in the afternoon in his Tony Gilham Racing Vauxhall Insignia.

Joe Girling and Warren Scott both had their first tastes of NGTC machinery in the second Insignia, with the former 22nd in the morning, and the latter 15th in the afternoon.

The third new face at Speedworks Motorsport during the test, Richard Hawken, was last in both sessions in the Toyota Avensis. Regular driver Ollie Jackson had a solid test, finishing in the top 10 in all four sessions over the two days.

Another consistent performer, Croft star Colin Turkington, finished fifth in each of the four sessions in his West Surrey Racing BMW 125i.

Elsewhere, Pirtek Racing boss Mike Jordan again took on driving duties in Jeff Smith’s absence, and broke into the top 10 in the afternoon, with the seventh fastest time. He was less than half a second slower than son Andrew.

The times listed below are from the afternoon session.
