Adam Morgan excited about “incredible” Mercedes switch
Adam Morgan says it will be an “incredible experience” to drive a Mercedes in the British Touring Car Championship next season.
Morgan’s Ciceley Racing team announced earlier this week that it would be building an A-Class to the NGTC regulations for 2013, heralding the famous German marque’s first appearance in the series in the modern era.
The team hope to sell their Toyota Avensis and build the A-Class from scratch, but if they can’t sell the Toyota they plan to strip it down, sell it as a shell and utilise the common NGTC components for the Mercedes.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Morgan said: “It is the first time Mercedes has been back in the championship for 20 or 30 years. I thought it was the first time – I’d not done my research properly!
“It is great for the championship and great for the fans, and I genuinely cannot wait to be out in a Mercedes touring car. It will be an incredible experience.
“There’s a lot to do over the winter, but I’m looking forward to it.”
Morgan says he hopes the announcement could also lead to Mercedes backing the project.
He said: “Our company, Ciceley Commercials, is a Mercedes-Benz truck and van dealer, so it makes sense for us to go with a Mercedes. Unfortunately as of yet we’ve not got any backing from Mercedes.
“That is where we want to get to, but we have to start getting the results first. If we could establish some sponsorship with them, that would be great.”
On the future of the Avensis, Morgan added: “We are trying to sell the whole thing as a complete package. Depending on how well that goes, if nobody buys it we will probably strip it down and sell it as a shell.
“The plan is to get brand new everything from GPRM and build it as a brand new car. If the Toyota goes as a complete package, that’s what we will do.”
