Penske Racing eyes V8 Supercars entry

American racing giants Penske Racing are eyeing a possible V8 Supercars entry. Penske Racing head Tim Cindric visited the season finale in Sydney to meet with the championship organisers.
”It is a series I love, always have. In this country it (V8 Supercars) is as big as the NFL in America. We want to understand it and than work out how to get involved,” said Cindric to dailytelegraph.com.au.

Penske Racing is currently competing in NASCAR and IndyCar. The possible move to Australian racing is reported to be a part of owner Roger Penske’s recent acquisition of Australian trucking company Western Star trucks.
“Penske bought the Western Star trucking business. Roger has always had racing as part of his business plans. He has been out here a couple of times and he told me I should go to Sydney to see the V8 Supercar race,” said Cindric.

Cindric was joined by Jamie Allison, head of Ford’s global motorsport program, at the Sydney 500, fueling speculation that their entry could be with Ford. The Telegraph reported that either Ford nor the V8 Supercars championship organisers wanted to comment Penske Racing’s visit to the season finale.

Penske Racing’s visit also sparked further rumors about a potential return of NASCAR driver and former V8 Supercars champion Marcos Ambrose. The Australian has previously admitted that he wants to return to V8 Supercars after his NASCAR career.
