Russell Ingall penalised for post-race comments

Russell Ingall was livid after the first V8 Supercars race at Winton when he was penalised with a drive through penalty for pushing David Wall into a spin. The 2005 champion said, among other things: ”I tell you what, I’d like to drag those guys down and take them over to all of those spectators over there and see. They’d kick the s*** out of them.”

Ingall has been given a fine of 15 000 AUD with a further 10 000 AUD suspended until the end of the year.

“Drivers are without question invited to express their opinion and show emotion, passion is the very essence of any sport,” said James Warburton, CEO of V8 Supercars.

“It is not our intent to suppress comment but encourage it. There have been many instances of it so far this season when drivers and teams have openly expressed their views to the media.

“In this circumstance, however, the comments were found to have included direct threats towards officials which in any sport is unacceptable.”

The penalty included the Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport driver submitting a written apology to the stewards.
