Fredrik Ekblom wins ahead of main rival Fredrik Larsson

Fredrik Ekblom scored an important victory in the second STCC race at Falkenberg ahead of main championship rival Fredrik Larsson.

Ekblom kept control throughout the race after a big effort by the Volvo Polestar Racing team to get his car together after the crash in race one with Richard Göransson, a crash meaning a five-place grid penalty for the Saab driver.

The race came under safety car conditions early on as Philip Forsman and Andreas Wernersson collided. Forsman ran wide in the fastest corner of the circuit and as he rejoined the circuit, Wernersson hit the right rear of Forsman’s BMW, meaning a retirement for the both.

As the race resumed, Dacia driver Mattias Andersson was immediately passed by both Larsson and Thed Björk. As the race progressed, Björk kept in touch with Larsson only to suffer from a rear left puncture. Björk had to pit for a new tyre, losing one lap on the leaders to finish ninth ultimately.

Two other drivers suffered from left rear punctures as well, something the Falkenberg circuit is known for. Bernadotte spun in the final corner due to his puncture, but was able to pit for a new tyre to finish tenth. Emma Kimiläinen got a puncture as well, but chose to stop and retire from the race.

Andersson secured the final podium position, continuing to show impressive consistency, ahead of Mattias Lindberg. Richard Göransson had a new hard fight with Linus Ohlsson for fifth position. Ohlsson tried hard to get past Göransson towards the end of the race, but had to settle for sixth position ahead of Erik Jonsson.
