Andrew Jordan’s grid penalty overturned under appeal

Eurotech Racing’s Andrew Jordan has won his appeal against the ten place penalty handed down to him by the stewards at Croft, ahead of this weekend’s round of the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton.

The reigning champion had been given a three point endorsement on his racing licence and a ten-place grid penalty after contact with Motorbase Performance driver Fabrizio Giovanardi at the Barcroft corner on the opening lap of the third race.

The Italian, who was leading the race, was knocked into a half spin and collected a Recticel barrier with his Ford Focus ST, sustaining damage and dropping down the order, while Jordan was able to continue on and take his fourth win of the season.

Giovanardi argued after the race that Jordan was at fault for the incident, while Jordan maintained that Giovanardi suddenly slowed down with an apparent problem into the corner.

Eurotech Racing appealed the decision, which was heard by TOCA ahead of this weekend’s round at Snetterton, and they chose to overturn the penalty.

Giovanardi on the other hand will be starting from the back of the grid for the first race, after he was given a grid drop at Croft for contact with Aron Smith’s Team BMR Volkswagen CC in the first race. The Motorbase team had appealed that penalty, but were unsuccessful, meaning it has been carried over to this weekend instead.
