Trio of top tens for Tom Ingram at Knockhill

Top touring car rookie Tom Ingram enhanced his burgeoning reputation with another fine weekend at Knockhill, taking a trio of top 10 finishes after a difficult start to the action.

The reigning Ginetta Supercup champion looked comfortable in the company he kept at the sharp end of the field in Scotland, and was in the battle for a podium finish in two of the three races.

And on a track where the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis has historically performed well, Ingram eventually netted finishes of seventh, seventh and ninth, despite missing the whole of second free practice due to an engine change.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes after the second race, Ingram said: “We had a good run on the soft tyres. I was always going to push as hard as I could while we were on the softs, and we did. Unfortunately, I’d burnt the tyres out by the end of the race.

“At the start of the race, that’s where our advantage was. We were sitting in fifth for a lot of it, and I think we were quicker than Adam [Morgan] who was ahead of us, but it would have been a bit risky sending it up the inside for a massive lunge into the hairpin.

“I’m pleased with that – it’s the first time we’ve been able to have a good solid run towards the front of the grid. Yes, the tyres dropped off at the end, but the pace we showed was really promising.

“In the first race, we started 13th and came through to seventh, which was another good result.”

Ingram is hoping the strong showing at Knockhill could prove to be a turning point in his season, which has been beset with bad luck and mechanical gremlins.

“It couldn’t really get much worse this year, with wheels falling off and everything going on around us. We’ve not really been able to show out true colours, and just how good we are. But hopefully, we can build on this,” he said.
