Thed Björk dominates Solvalla qualifying

Reigning champion Thed Björk dominated both STCC qualifying sessions at Solvalla. The Volvo driver was fastest by close to two tenths in the first Q1 sessions and close to five tenths of a second in the second Q2 session.

The first session saw Saab driver Richard Göransson being closest to Björk in second position, with Volvo driver Fredrik Ekblom in third position, 0.213 seconds from his team mate in pole.

Philip Forsman was the fastest BMW Dealer Team WestCoast Racing driver in fourth position, beating team mate Fredrik Larsson with 0.125 seconds.

The first session saw an interruption after just two minutes as Jan ”Flash” Nilsson stopped in the first corner and had to be towed to the pits. The double champion was forced to sit out the remaining part of the session after that and will start last.

Emma Kimiläinen claimed tenth position in Q1 which means reversed grid pole position for the first race, with Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte scoring his best so far qualifying results with ninth and will start from the front row alongside Kimiläinen.

The Q2 session saw Björk being fastest again, this time with a massive 0.446 seconds ahead of Göransson in second. Forsman improved one position from Q1 to Q2 with third ahead of Andersson in fourth and Ekblom in fifth.

BMW driver Larsson suffered a big blow to his title aspirations as he was forced to abort his Q2 lap after hitting the wall in the first corner. Larsson is going to start eighth for the second race tomorrow if the team are able to repair his car.
