Fredrik Ekblom heads Volvo 1-2 in final STCC race of 2014

Fredrik Ekblom won the final STCC race of 2014 in the season finale at Mantorp Park after a last-lap scrap with team mate Thed Björk.

Björk started from pole position, claimed the lead into the first corner and pulled up a gap of about two seconds to team mate Ekblom.

With only a few laps left, Ekblom closed in on Björk and managed to get past in the Mjölby corner. Björk retook the lead on the final lap in the same corner, only to be passed by Ekblom again with two corners left.

Ekblom crossed the line eight tenths of a second ahead of Björk, with championship runner-up and BMW driver Fredrik Larsson finishing in third.

Richard Göransson held third position for the majority of the race, but was caught by Larsson who charged from sixth position on the grid. Larsson made his way past Göransson but could not create a gap to the Saab driver who finished just 0.172 seconds behind the BMW driver.

Philip Forsman finished fifth ahead of the top Kia driver in the form of Linus Ohlson in sixth position. Daniel Haglöf and Mattias Andersson rounded off the top ten.

Mattias Lindberg was the sole driver to receive a drive through penalty in the race, with the reason being the team not having the car ready in time for the race start. Jan ”Flash” Nilsson was the only retirement of the race, coming to a halt in the pits due to a technical problem.
