Fredrik Larsson pleased with runner-up spot

Fredrik Larsson headed the STCC championship standings for a good portion of the season, but lost out to Thed Björk in the end. The BMW driver was nonetheless pleased with the runner-up spot in the championship.
”We have to be pleased. We wanted the gold, but we are going to celebrate a strong end to the season and a silver medal,” said Larsson.

Larsson won the penultimate race of the season from third position on the reversed grid, securing his first ever STCC victory.
”I was at last able to show them how it’s done! I felt that it was my race and I went for victory straight away. This makes the runner-up spot feeling considerably better,” said Larsson.

The BMW driver headed the championship until midpoint of the championship, but saw his chances slowly slipping away firstly at Knutstorp after the big crash in the first race and then secondly at Solvalla when he crashed in qualifying.
”Thed Björk was too tough to beat in the end, so a big congrats to him. The final race weekend of the year was strong and it feels good to end the season with that as a memory ahead of next season. We showed that we hade the same pace as Volvo,” said Larsson.
