Turkington leads Plato again in second Brands practice
Title contenders Colin Turkington and Jason Plato once again found themselves together at the top of the times at Brands Hatch in free practice two, with the series leader pipping his only championship rival by 0.397 seconds.
The session took place on a drying track with times tumbling throughout, before West Surrey Racing’s Turkington posted a 1.31.729 with 14 minutes to go, which remained as the benchmark.
Triple Eight’s Plato set his best lap just before a technical fault caused a red flag with nine minutes to go to, and by the time running restarted the heavens had opened, meaning no further improvements were possible.
As in the first session, Plato’s team-mate Sam Tordoff was third, with Gordon Shedden and Andrew Jordan again making it two Hondas in the top five.
Team BMR’s Jack Goff was quick again, posting the sixth fastest time on the track where he took his maiden touring car podium last year, with Adam Morgan, Aron Smith, Alain Menu and Matt Neal completing the top 10.
Just outside the top 10, Rob Austin Racing’s Hunter Abbott was a notable 11th, while at the back of the pack, Tom Ingram, Ollie Jackson and Rob Collard all failed to complete timed laps due to technical issues with their cars.
The session again saw a number of minor incidents for some drivers, with Lea Wood catching a lurid slide going into Stirlings, and Dave Newsham managing a full 360 degree pirouette exiting Graham Hill.
