Bathurst 1000 currently red flagged after 61 laps

The Bathurst 1000 has been suspended on lap 61 for repairs to the track at Griffins’ Bend, due to a number of incidents during the famous endurance event at the Mount Panorama circuit.

The first sign of trouble at the corner was when Paul Morris crashed the #6 Ford Performance Racing Falcon while behind the safety car, which had been deployed on lap 45 after a kangaroo had ventured onto the track.

Soon after the race resumed, Taz Douglas in the #360 Nissan Altima and Scott Pye in the #16 Dick Johnson Racing Ford also went off at the corner, with the resurfaced tarmac visibly breaking up at the corner, and with repairs also needed to the tyre barrier after Douglas’ incident.

The Volvo S60 of Scott McLaughlin and Alex Prémat has dominated the race so far, but is currently off sequence and down in tenth, having pitted during the safety car period which was triggered by Pye and Douglas’ accidents.

As a result, David Russell & Rick Kelly currently lead the race in the #15 Nissan Altima ahead of the #55 Rod Nash Racing Ford of Dean Canto & David Reynolds, with Steven Johnson/David Wall in third in the DJR Falcon.

Repairs to the track are currently taking place, with a restart time for the remaining 100 laps of the race still to be confirmed.
