Three victories in three races for Mark Winterbottom

Mark Winterbottom made it three victories from three races in the third V8 Supercars race at Albert Park in Melbourne. The race was more or less a repeat of the two previous ones with Prodrive Racing Australia team mate Chaz Mostert coming home in second place.

Shane Van Gisbergen was a distant third, over seven seconds behind the Ford duo. The Tekno Autosports driver got past Mostert at the start, but was passed by the Ford driver two laps into the race. Championship leader James Courtney finished fourth for Holden Racing Team, with Tim Slade rounding off the top five.

Just as in the past two races, there was action on lap one. Casualties were Scott McLaughlin and Dale Wood, although this time not as a result of contact between the two. Wood pitted due to an oil leak while Volvo Polestar Racing driver McLaughlin, who received a five-place grid penalty ahead of this race for the incident with Wood yesterday, stopped on track with damage to his car.

Reigning champion Jamie Whincup lost fifth to Slade in the start. The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver tried his best to get back past towards the end of the race, but had to settle for sixth ahead of fellow Holden driver Garth Tander in seventh.

Rick Kelly was the top Nissan Motorsport driver in eighth position ahead of Nick Percat in ninth and Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Craig Lowndes in tenth.

The fourth and final race starts tomorrow at 12:05 local time.
