Pepe Oriola delighted despite throttle problems

Pepe Oriola had yet another strong showing today in Shanghai, China.

The Spaniard was particularly spectacular at the start, when he elected to go on the grass on the inside of Turn 1 to try and overtake eventual race winner Andrea Belicchi for second, after a very good start from sixth on the grid.

The Craft-Bamboo Lukoil driver fought hard to improve on that, but as he managed to overtake Target Competition’s Belicchi a throttle pedal issue allowed the Italian back through.

“It was a very intense race, with several overtaking moves, until Gianni Morbidelli arrived,” said Oriola. “I am very happy I was able to keep my fourth place in spite of the throttle problem I experienced during the race.”

The Spaniard looked set to keep up with the pace of the two Target Competition SEAT León Racers he had ahead, which made him hope for a podium finish:”I wanted a top three result, but the way things went and taking into account the 20 kilos of success ballast I am very happy with what I achieved today. I hope the fans were thrilled by the show we offered today as well!”

Oriola is now looking forward to his home race, which is scheduled for May, 3rd, in Valencia:”Racing at my home track will add to the excitement and I’m sure a lot of fans will come to support me. The Ricardo Tormo is one of my favourites, and I had good results there. I hope I will do well, so the fans will be able to cheer for me.”

Oriola is now fourth in the championship, 23 points shy of championship leader Gianni Morbidelli
