Dan Welch out of Thruxton raceday after practice crash

Dan Welch will miss Sunday’s racing at Thruxton after an accident in the second free practice session damaged the subframe on his Proton Gen-2.

Suspension failure pitched Welch into the barriers exiting the final chicane, and the impact caused serious damage to the front end of his car.

The withdrawal means Welch is still waiting for his first race start of the season.

“The wheel’s folded back [on impact] and it’s bent the subframe. It happened when I was on the throttle, on my way out of the chicane,” said Welch to TouringCarTimes.

Welch’s team-mate Andy Wilmot also had a tough day with an engine failure, but he is still hoping to race tomorrow.
