Kevin Gleason leads Honda 1-2 in morning test session

Kevin Gleason emerged as the fastest in this morning’s test session in Monza, Italy. The WestCoast Racing driver managed to break the 2’03 barrier by setting a 2’02.974, which was unbeatable even for Honda team-mate Gianni Morbidelli, who led most of the session, and was half a tenth slower than his team-mate.

After a steady start, Stefano Comini came third in his Target Competition SEAT León, almost half a second off the pace, leading home stable-mates Jordi Gené and Pepe Oriola, both from Craft-Bamboo Lukoil Racing.

Zsolt Szàbo had a positive outing, finishing sixth in his Zengo Motorsport León after being the most competitive SEAT driver for a long time during the session. Lorenzo Veglia’s time from the second session was enough to put his Liqui-Moly Team Engstler León in seventh, ahead of Target Competition’s Michel Nykjaer.

Igor Skuz also set his best time earlier this morning, putting the third Honda Civic TCR in ninth place, with BD Racing’s Antonio D’Amico closing the top ten.

Fernando Monje stopped on track this morning due to a driveshaft failure after hitting a kerb too hard and with an over-aggressive camber set up, and Campos Racing are currently working on the Opel Astra OPC to put it back on track.

Zengo Motorsport’s Davide Roda also had a differential issue late in the session, whereas the Onyx-built Ford Focus is still in the pits with the gearbox being worked on, after Tom Boardman confirmed the issues encountered during the test session held earlier this week in England.

Action will resume at 13.40, with a final one-hour test session.
