JAS launch new Honda Civic Type-R for TCR

Italian engineering company JAS are presenting the updated version of the Honda Civic TCR, which is racing in Monza this weekend.

The chassis and mechanical features have not changed compared to the current Civic, but the big difference is the engine, which is derived directly from the new road-going version of the Type-R.

“It is a new direction which will allow us to satisfy the many requests we have had so far,” said JAS’s Daniele Cambiaghi to TouringCarTimes. “Using an engine deriving directly from its road-going counterpart will make it easier for us to sell cars, which is the concept of TCR.”

Cambiaghi says the requests for Honda Civics come from Europe and Asia, and the market is very wide. “We have had requests from all over the world already, which is great. We are happy because we liked this concept from the very beginning, but we were in a bit of a rush to complete three cars and participate in the championship.

“We are now able to do things differently, and this will help the market. The requests have already exceeded our current production capacity, which testifies the quality of this concept.”

JAS already have an idea as to how many cars they will produce: “At the moment we are planning to build about ten cars this year, and do the same in 2016. We have many requests, so we will try to deliver the cars all over the world, rather than concentrating on a single market. Asia is surely one of the most interesting, but we have been asked for information from all over Europe.”

JAS mentioned Asia, Germany and Benelux as the three most important markets so far, but they expect more countries such as Italy and Spain to send more requests very soon.
