Five drivers given points penalties after Darwin

No less than five drivers have been awarded points penalties after the V8 Supercars races in Darwin. Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes, Jason Bright (twice), James Courtney and Scott Pye have had 25 or 15 points deducted.

The majority of the penalties were, not surprisingly, awarded after the chaotic Race 13. Reigning champion Whincup had 25 points removed for causing contact with Fabian Coulthard in turn one.

Bright was penalised twice, adding up to a total of 50 points, for his incidents with David Reynolds in turn 14 and Andre Heimgartner in the turn one.

Holden Racing Team driver Courtney was also given a 25-point penalty in the first race of the weekend following his incident with Shane Van Gisbergen and team mate Garth Tander.

The final race of the weekend saw ”just” one points penalty in the form of Pye having 15 points deducted for his incident with Nissan Motorsport driver James Moffat in turn five.

Several other incidents were investigated but determined not to have breached the rules, other than Todd Kelly getting a black flag (PLP) for an incident with Coulthard in turn one.
