Thed Björk claims second STCC pole position of 2015

Thed Björk claimed his second pole position of the 2015 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season in the Q2 qualifying session at Mantorp Park. The reigning champion pipped Volvo team mate Fredrik Ekblom by a mere 43 thousands of a second.

But it was Ekblom who received 25 points to the drivers’ championship by being fastest in the Q1 session, beating BMW driver Fredrik Larsson by 0.060 seconds.

Björk was third in the Q1 session, 19 thousands of a second behind Larsson, with Richard Göransson in fourth, Emma Kimiläinen in fifth and Kevin Aabol in sixth.

The Q2 session, which determines the grid for the first race, saw the Volvo duo in front, Björk-Ekblom, with BMW driver Larsson in third. Larsson looked set to challenge for pole but made a mistake going out of the chicane heading out to the straight but was still only 0.086 seconds behind Björk.

Local driver Mattias Andersson was fourth fastest for Dacia dealer team with PWR Racing driver Emma Kimiläinen claiming her best grid position of 2015 with fifth. Kevin Aabol was fastest of the Kia drivers in sixth position with a disappointed Richard Göransson in seventh after making a mistake in the final corner in what seemed to be a competitive lap up until that point.

Erik Jonsson claimed his third straight reversed grid pole for the second race by being tenth fastest in the Q1 session.
