Fredrik Larsson: ”It is hard to understand the penalty”

Fredrik Larsson looked set to score a double victory at his home track Falkenberg until the stewards awarded him a 30 second penalty for an incident with title rival Thed Björk.
”It was a tough overtaking manoeuvre but in no way unfair. I have seen far worse things than this and I have a hard time understanding the penalty,” said Larsson.

The WestCoast Racing driver started tenth thanks to the reversed grid order but fought his way up through the field and caught Björk who was second behind Volvo team mate Prince Carl Philip.
”I got up alongside Thed who really tried to shut the door and pushed me onto the curbs. It is hard to brake efficiently then and we touched,” said Larsson.

The contact saw Björk’s front suspension being damaged and the championship leader retiring in the gravel.
”There isn’t much to say about the incident other than I think the penalty he received is fair,” said Björk.

The penalty saw Larsson dropping from first to eighth but gained on Björk in the championship over the weekend in total nonetheless.
”The victory in the first race was vital for the championship and it was great to win on home grounds. Despite the penalty, we have had a good day in the championship and we are on the right track now. We are for sure not giving up and the fight is on for the last three races,” said Larsson.

Larsson is 20 points behind Björk in the championship and eleven points behind Fredrik Ekblom who is second.
