Fredrik Larsson has not given up title bid despite tough weekend

Fredrik Larsson had a tough STCC weekend at Karlskoga where he was forced to miss qualifying due to a broken gearbox and retired from the second race while title rivals Thed Björk and Fredrik Ekblom won.

”This just wasn’t our weekend. The speed wasn’t quite there and we were not exactly helped by the problems with the gearbox in qualifying,” said Larsson.

The BMW driver fought his way up through the field to finish fourth in the first race, but managed only two corners in the second race before a puncture meant a retirement.

”Things were okay in race one, but then I was hit by Kimiläinen in the start of the second race. I got a puncture and I couldn’t continue. A tough situation, but we’ll just have to get back stronger next time,” said Larsson.

The gap to championship leader and Volvo driver Björk has grown to 58 points ahead of the penultimate race weekend at Solvalla, but Larsson is nonetheless optimistic.

”Solvalla is a track that I like. We are also going to have a weight advantage, at least against Volvo. So I am looking forward to that weekend, the track ought to suit us well,” said Larsson.

Title rivals Björk and Ekblom will carry 50 kilos each while Larsson will only carry 10 kilos at Solvalla.
