Colin Turkington disappointed he couldn’t “limit the damage”

Colin Turkington was left disappointed with his day at Knockhill, dropping down to fourth place in the championship standings.

Turkington was the best of the Team BMR Volkswagen CCs in qualifying, placing the #1 car in ninth on the grid, but it was mostly downhill for the reigning champion from then on.

A tenth in race one was the best result that Turkington would score throughout Sunday, retiring from race two with suspension damage before being able to scrape a point in the final encounter of the day.

“Obviously I’m disappointed and there was potential to limit the damage,” Turkington said. “In race two the car was strong and in the end I was probably unlucky where Andy [Priaulx]’s hit me as it broke the suspension. If I’d have finished where I was then fifth or sixth and got the reverse grid you really limit the damage and the weekend doesn’t look too bad. But obviously that didn’t happen and I’ve lost big ground in two races. That’s the nature of the championship, you can have a really good one followed by a bad one, as people have done.”

Looking ahead to Rockingham, Turkington is confident he can bounce back and get near the top of the pile. Team BMR tested at Rockingham recently, a fact that he feels will give them a slight edge heading in to the eighth meeting of the year.

“We did test at Rockingham not that long ago,” he said. “We had a good car on that day so I always find that’s a big help going to a track for the second time. This was the first time at Knockhill, if you have one big problem it’s very difficult to get round it in the weekend. I don’t think it’ll play to our strengths but it shouldn’t be as bad as here and hopefully we can regain some ground.”
