James Dodd working on 2016 BTCC drive
James Dodd is working on finding a drive in the BTCC for 2016, but is remaining coy on who he has spoken to.
The 2014 HSCC Super Touring champion was seen at the opening round of the 2015 BTCC season as a guest of Houseman Racing, who currently run Stewart Lines in a Toyota Avensis, while rumours through the paddock suggest Dodd has spoken to a number of teams up and down the grid.
“I can’t really say much but I have been enquiring, yes,” Dodd told TouringCarTimes at Rockingham. “But I can’t say who I’ve been in talks with, definitely not. It’ll be for next year if it happens at all.”
It was noted at the Silverstone Classic that the Dodd family, who not only have a pair of Honda Accord Super Tourers, but a number of historic cars in different categories, were selling a portion of their collection, leading to the question of whether it was to boost funds for James’ BTCC bid.
“That was because they wanted to do something else,” Dodd said. “They were looking for a change so they’re just going for something else. They’re getting a bit older, they wanted to change their lifestyle.”
Despite a winless 2015 campaign, riddled with reliability issues at both Donington Park and Rockingham, Dodd seemed open to stay behind the wheel of his ex-James Thompson car, even if he does manage to find a BTCC drive.
“If the Super Tourers didn’t clash with the BTCC then I’d probably try and do a bit of both,” he said. “But it’s more likely I’d concentrate on the BTCC, something a bit more modern.”
