Björk and Ekblom secure title for Volvo after qualifying as Larsson struggles

Thed Björk was fastest in the Q1 session of the 2015 STCC season finale at Knutstorp, securing 25 points to the championship. Polestar Cyan Racing team mate Fredrik Ekblom was second fastest, with BMW driver Fredrik Larsson only managing fourth. The result means that the title will go to either of the Volvo drivers as Larsson is 69 points behind with 50 points left.

The gap between Björk and Ekblom remained extremely close, as in the test sessions, with a mere 0.024 seconds separating the two in favour of Björk. The gap in the points has grown from 23 points to 30 points in favour of Björk.

Emma Kimiläinen continues to impress, setting the third fastest time in her PWR Racing prepared Saab 9-3.

Richard Göransson was fifth fastest ahead of Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte in sixth.

The Q2 session, deciding the grid for the first race, saw once again a tight fight between Polestar Cyan Racing drivers Ekblom and Björk. But this time Ekblom came out on top, beating Björk with 0.223 seconds.

Göransson claimed grid position three, just over half a second behind, with Kimiläinen in fourth and Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson in fifth.

Things went from bad to worse for WestCoast Racing driver Larsson in Q2 as he failed to make it out on track due to technical difficulties and will start eighth in the first race.

The first race of the 2015 season finale starts tomorrow at 12:30 CET.
