Emotions running high after last lap incident

Team Kia driver Kevin Aabol and Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson collided in the final corner of the final lap of the final 2015 STCC race at Knutstorp.
”I had driven 99 per cent of the race and then someone just takes me out. That is ****** incredible,” said Aabol.

Aabol started from the reversed grid pole position and held the lead for a good portion of the race until Fredrik Ekblom and Daniel Haglöf made their way past, demoting the Norwegian to third place.

Andersson closed in on Aabol on the final couple of laps and made his move in the tight final corner that usually results in contact when trying to pass.

”I just heard a bang, straight into the side of me. That enabled Björk to get past me to third just before the finishing line. I deserved that trophy and I had the speed for it that makes it feel even worse,” said Aabol.

The incident saw Björk passing the both of them while Aabol lost down to fourth position and Andersson to eighth. The Dacia driver had another view of the incident.

”I was reasonably close and I saw that he started to struggle for grip, just like everyone else. He started to slow down to get the car over the finishing line. I went on the inside and he blocked me, making us interlock and spin. If he had left me more space, we would have been able to go side by side. I wanted the podium but we could’t do it,” said Andersson.
