Fredrik Ekblom wins final race as Thed Björk is crowned 2015 STCC champion

Fredrik Ekblom made it two out of two wins in the 2015 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship finale at Knutstorp as Thed Björk crossed the line in third position, enough to secure his third straight STCC title.

Polestar Cyan Racing driver Ekblom started from ninth on the grid but made strong progress through the field. The first lap saw him climbing two positions and a few laps later had the Volvo driver passing Erik Jonsson for third position.

Team Kia driver Kevin Aabol started from the reversed grid pole position and held the lead ahead of PWR Racing driver Daniel Haglöf.

Ekblom fought his way into the lead with just four laps left, but his efforts were not enough as Björk followed not far behind. Björk started tenth and was unable to make progress on the first couple of lap, being stuck behind Saab driver Emma Kimiläinen.

Björk made a decisive move on Kimiläinen in turn five, resulting in contact between the two. The stewards gave Björk a warning for the move, but no further action.

Björk climbed to fifth position and looked set for that position on the final lap when Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson threw his car on the inside of Aabol. The move resulted in a spin for Andersson while Aabol lost third place to Björk.

Richard Göransson was involved in the top fight earlier in the race but made a mistake, out braked him self and spun down to seventh position.

The nightmare weekend continued for WestCost Racing driver Fredrik Larsson who stalled on the formation lap, pitted and was unable to finish the race.

The 2015 title for Björk means that the Polestar Cyan Racing driver becomes historic as the first ever driver to take three consecutive STCC titles and joins Göransson with the most titles: four. Björk claimed the title on 366 points, ten points more than Ekblom in second and 98 points behind Larsson in third.

Polestar Cyan Racing claimed the team title on 723 points with PWR Racing in second place on 340 and Team Tidö in third on 281 points as WestCoast Racing dropped to a disappointing fourth place on 271 points.
