Jason Plato: “We need Honda to have s**t luck to win title”

Jason Plato has conceded his rivals at Honda Yuasa Racing will need to have “shit luck” on finals weekend at Brands Hatch if he is to secure a third BTCC crown, after Gordon Shedden left Silverstone with an increased lead in the standings.

Team BMR’s Plato will go into Kent 23 points behind Shedden, after a tough weekend at Silverstone which featured a race one zero points score for the second meeting in succession.

Plato was full of praise for the job his team have done throughout 2015, but was left ruing the occasions where things haven’t gone his way.

Nevertheless, the 2001 and 2010 champion goes into the final weekend of the year with a chance of the title for the ninth time in his BTCC career.

“We’ve had a bit of shit luck recently, we’ve lost a lot of points to shit luck and that can happen over there [at Honda]. It needs to happen over there [if we’re going to win],” said Plato to TouringCarTimes.

“Anything can happen, but we need something to go wrong [for Honda]. Dynamics have a very good team, a very good car, a very good engine and very good drivers, so they’re not going to be far off.

“Even if I win all the races, they can cruise round to pick up the points as they have a nice buffer.

“We’ve been a bit unlucky this year. The team have performed brilliantly. For some reason our cars aren’t fast down the straights anymore compared to the others, compared to where we were at the beginning. But we’ll keep fighting away.”
