Davit Kajaia to race Engstler Volkswagen Golf in TCR 2016 season

Current European Touring Car Cup TC2T class champion Davit Kajaia will join the TCR International Series for the 2016 season, driving one of the team’s two Volkswagen Golf TCRs, as the team slims down to a two car operation for next year.

Kajaia dominated the TC2T class in 2015’s ETCC, winning nine from 12 races, the first eight consecutively, and will make the Georgian driver will make the move to the world’s newest touring car series in 2016 instead as the ETCC begins to phase out the older Super 2000 specification cars.

“We are confirmed to run with two cars in TCR International,” said Engstler Motorsport team manager Kurt Treml to TouringCarTimes. “Davit Kajaia will be here with us in TCR International with the Volkswagen, and then we will have two cars in TCR Asia, which we will finalise shortly.”

Engstler Motorsport will also run the new TCR Germany series in 2016, but with plans for the new national series still taking shape. The plan is for other teams to run cars in the series, but Engstler may enter a few cars of their own depending on grid numbers.
