Mountune representation on the BTCC grid leaps with Subaru deal

Mountune Racing have said they’re delighted to have been selected to built Team BMR’s new Subaru boxer engines for the 2016 British Touring Car Championship, and with the four-car team switching away from the Swindon Engine, the mix of “TOCA engines” on the grid is set to drop to near 50% of the field.

Mountune already provide the engines for the Ford teams on the grid, following their long-standing relationship with the US brand, and will now add Team BMR’s four Subaru Levorgs to its tally of customersf for 2016, which would mean the Essex-based operation could be responsible for the power units for around a third of the grid. Neil Brown Engines meanwhile will build engines for the Honda equipped teams, based on Honda’s Type R engine, as well as BMW-based units for West Surrey Racing’s three BMW 1 series.

“We are thrilled to have been chosen to build the engines for BMR’s 2016 championship campaign, and very happy to be partnered with a manufacturer team.” said David Mountain, technical director of Mountune Racing. “The development team here at Mountune will be working around the clock getting the four Boxer engines ready for pre-season testing and are all looking forward to seeing them perform out on track during this years championship.”

Kevin Berry, chief engineer of Team BMR added:
“Having looked at all the options available to us for 2016 I am excited that Mountune are on board to develop and build our engine for this project. With the extensive experience that Mountune have in the BTCC and NGTC regulations, I am extremely confident that Mountune have the expertise and ability to produce a great race engine from this unique Subaru base.”
