Shedden, Fletcher, Austin and Smiley fill Croft post-race penalty list

Four drivers were given penalties following the races at Croft, with Team Dynamics’ Gordon Shedden, Power Maxed Racing’s Kelvin Fletcher, Handy Motorsport’s Rob Austin and Team HARD’s Chris Smiley all feeling the wrath of the stewards.

The fairly innocuous list of penalties ranged from minor racing incidents, unsafe rejoins and in the case of Rob Austin, overtaking under the yellow flag in Race 2.

Shedden, whose worst weekend of the season saw him pick up just four points from the meeting, was penalised for an unsafe rejoin in Race 1, where he made contact with the Mercedes of fellow Scotsman Aiden Moffat.

Kelvin Fletcher received two separate penalties for incidents in Races 1 and 2, with the Chevrolet driver given a two-point endorsement on his racing licence for a collision with Team BMR’s James Cole at the Hairpin, and was reprimanded in the second race for an incident with Proton driver Dan Welch.

With Fletcher now having picked up two driving infringements, his next penalty will see him drop to the back of the grid for the following race.

Team HARD’s Chris Smiley received his first penalty of the season, given a formal reprimand for an unsafe rejoin where he made contact with the Eurotech Honda of Jeff Smith.

There was no investigation into the incident later in the race when Smith made contact with Hunter Abbott, nor into the inner-team clash at Team BMR, when Jason Plato and Colin Turkington came together on lap eight of Race 2.
