Team BMR clarifies its engine equalisation stance

Team BMR has clarified its views on engine performance in the BTCC with an addition to the statement issued on the matter earlier this week.

Following comments made by Jason Plato at Knockhill, and a subsequent response from series director Alan Gow, the Subaru team gave its thoughts on the issue with a missive distributed ahead of this weekend’s eighth round of the year at Rockingham.

In the statement, the team revealed that information provided by TOCA in relation to the processes used to determine boost pressure and subsequent adjustments had shown that the “maths and processes are in fact a remarkably accurate judgement of the power output of each engine at the test conditions.”

At the same time, BMR was keen to stress how it understood the frustration shown by Plato – and other drivers elsewhere on the grid – when it came to the issue, with adjustments not always appearing to be “logical given the objective of equalising engine outputs across the championship.”

Eager to reiterate its views, the team released an addition to the earlier statement on Saturday morning at Rockingham, making clear its view that further work was still required to ensure that performance under test conditions was translated into performance on track in the quest to ensure equalisation.

“We believe these test conditions do not translate to actual ‘on track’ straight line speed performance and recommend revisions moving forward if we are to achieve the common goal of ‘on track’ speed equalisation,” the addition read. “We are looking forward to working with TOCA, the engine builders and all other teams to achieve this common goal.”
