Outsider Colin Turkington not giving up on title

Colin Turkington insists he will fight to the end as he seeks to secure a third BTCC title on Finals Day at Brands Hatch.

The Subaru Team BMR driver heads into the season finale as one of eight men who could still lift the title, although he would need to overhaul no fewer than six of his rivals and overcome a 38 point deficit to Sam Tordoff to take championship honours.

Whilst the team has played down its chances of success, Turkington admitted that it was an ‘amazing achievement’ that he even finds himself in contention given the early season issues BMR faced with the Subaru Levorg – and vowed to keep fighting in his quest for an unlikely title.

“Although I’m regarded as an outside contender for the title, it’s still pretty impressive that we are involved in the season showdown,” he said. “Even in a ‘normal’ championship year, to arrive at Brands with a shout of the crown is always the goal. To achieve that in our first season with the Subaru is a great reward for everyone involved.

“We have all worked incredibly hard and put everything into this project. To be in the championship fight despite the challenges we faced early on is amazing.

“Brands GP should suit our car and it’s the track that holds the most special memories for me, having won my first race there and clinched both my championships. I’m aiming to build on that and won’t give up the fight until I’ve crossed the line on the final lap of the final race.”
