ACI Sport confirms separate grid and calendar for TCR Italy

TCR Italy promoter ACI Sport confirmed the split between the TCR Italy grid and junior class TCS. The championship, which was won by Roberto Colciago at the wheel of an AGS-Honda Civic TCR in 2016, will also have a separate calendar from TCS.

The series will also be rebadged as Campionato Italiano Turismo TCR (TCR Italian Touring Car Championship), featuring TCT-class machinery as well, which in 2016 included the two Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglios built by Italian engineering company Bacci Romano and the 2T Course & Reglage-Citroën C3 Max.

The TCS class, which features cars very similar to their road-going counterparts, is set to expand as TouringCarTimes understands SEAT Motorsport Italia will run a one-make series with the new 300-bhp León Cupra ST TCS within the frame of the Italian championship.

The venue of the fourth event of TCR Italy is yet to be confirmed, with Magione and Adria the most likely candidates to host the race.
