Fabian Coulthard claims another DJR Team Penske 1-2

Fabian Coulthard claimed another DJR Team Penske 1-2 with team-mate Scott McLaughlin in the final race of the Supercars weekend at Symmons Plains, also marking the first points-awarding double victory for the team.

Coulthard managed to make his way up through the field in the wet conditions, also utilising a safety car session when Tim Blanchard went off into the wall on lap 42 to climb the order.

Prodrive Racing Australia driver Chaz Mostert headed the field with quite some margin when he made a mistake 18 laps from the end, handing the lead over to the DJR Team Penske duo of Coulthard and McLaughlin and dropping down to seventh place.

McLaughlin was ahead of Coulthard earlier in the race, but lost time during a pit stop due to light bodywork repairs.

Jamie Whincup, who started from pole position, finished third with team-mate Craig Lowndes putting pressure on him from behind in fourth position.

Holden driver David Reynolds crossed the line in fifth position ahead of the Prodrive Racing Australia Ford of Cameron Waters in sixth.

Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen had a tough day to finish ninth following a 15-second pitstop penalty after a clash with Nissan Motorsport’s Todd Kelly earlier in the race.

Van Gisbergen still holds the championship lead, 20 points over Coulthard and 51 points over team-mate Whincup.
