Stefano Comini leads the way in second practice in Bahrain

Comtoyou driver Stefano Comini was fastest in the second free practice session in Bahrain. The defending champion’s Audi RS 3 LMS was still two-tenths slower than today’s fastest lap set by Team WRT’s Jean-Karl Vernay in the first session this morning.

As the day came to an end with just one hour of daylight left and the circuit lights on, DG Sport Compétition’s Mat’o Homola was forced to sit out the second session, his Opel Astra TCR undergoing an engine change. The Slovakian will be back on track tomorrow for qualifying.

Most drivers set their fastest times in the first half of the session, with Stefano Comini setting the fastest time 10 minutes after the green flag. Craft-Bamboo’s Pepe Oriola was second in his SEAT León TCR ahead of team-mate James Nash, confirming the strong form of the red cars. Roberto Colciago was fourth in his M1RA Honda Civic TCR ahead of Vernay.

Hugo Valente finished sixth in his Craft-Bamboo SEAT ahead of Attila Tassi, one of the few last-minute improvers, while Gianni Morbidelli used a slipstream from the Hungarian teenager earlier in the session to take eighth.

After coming third in today’s free practice, Dusan Borkovic finished ninth in his GE-Force Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR, while Pierre-Yves Corthals completed the top ten in the sole remaining DG Sport Compétition Opel. Championship leader Davit Kajaia went no further than 11th, 2.3 seconds off the pace.
Qualifying will start tomorrow at 11.00 local time.
