Scott McLaughlin claims lights-to-flag victory at Barbagallo

Scott McLaughlin claimed a lights-to-flag victory in the second Supercars race at Barbagallo, his second straight this weekend.

The Kiwi started from pole position and pulled away from Prodrive Racing Australia driver Chaz Mostert.

The DJR Team Penske driver eventually won the race by close to five seconds over Mostert in second place while Jamie Whincup crossed the line in third, six seconds behind.

Mark Winterbottom held third earlier in the race, but came out behind Whincup after the pitstops and finished a distant fourth, over 13 seconds from race winner McLaughlin.

Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Shane van Gisbergen finished the race in sixth position ahead of championship leader Fabian Coulthard. The DJR Team Penske driver had a tough race, opting for a three-stop strategy, and was unable to match the top drivers.

Coulthard heads the drivers’ championship on 802 points, 19 more than van Gisbergen, 22 more than Whincup and 31 points more than team-mate and race winner McLaughlin.

The Supercars continues in two weeks at Winton Motor Raceway.
