Roberto Colciago gets grid penalty for Salzburgring

M1RA’s Roberto Colciago has been given a five-place grid drop for Race 1 at the Salzburgring after the stewards found him responsible for the first chicane incident that saw he and Comtoyou Racing’s Frédéric Vervisch forced to take the escape road.

After investigating the incident, which was raised by DG Sport Compétition which run Mat’o Homola’s Opel Astra, the stewards found that Colciago pushed Frédéric Vervisch, with both going straight at the first chicane and overtaking the Slovakian.

The Belgian gave the position back to the Italian, but the Opel remained behind both.

The stewards also decided that no further action would be taken on the first lap incidents involving Craft-Bamboo’s Hugo Valente, Pepe Oriola, Team WRT’s Jean-Karl Vernay and Frédéric Vervisch.

The decision means that the Race 2 classification at Monza is now final.
