Power Maxed and MG duo amongst six qualifying penalities

Six drivers were hit with penalties on the back of qualifying for the latest rounds of the BTCC season at Oulton Park after officials looked into yellow flag infringements in the closing stages of the session.

After a red flag period caused by Matt Simpson going off at Druids in his Honda Civic, the session came down to a quick five minute dash at the end, with the whole field heading out in a last gasp bid to improve their times.

A mistake from Martin Depper then saw his Ford go off on the run towards Cascades before the Motorbase driver parked his car on the side of the circuit, with marshals throwing out the yellow flags as the driver exited his car.

Whilst those yellow flags were flying in sector one, a number of drivers were deemed to have improved their times and were stripped of their fastest laps post-session.

Of the six, five will now drop places on the grid for Sunday’s opening race.

Senna Proctor drops from tenth on the grid to 16th
Adam Morgan drops from 16th on the grid to 20th
Aron Taylor-Smith drops from 19th on the grid to 25th
Luke Davenport drops from 22nd on the grid to 24th
Dan Lloyd remains 26th
Tom Chilton drops from 27th on the grid to 30th

Dave Newsham and Ash Sutton had both lost their best times during the session for exceeding track limits.
