Falkenberg test

The STCC teams tested today at Falkenberg. Volvo, BMW, Peugeot, Audi were at the track as well as Mattias Andersson´s privateer Alfa Romeo. Though despite this being the last official test before the season start two teams were missing. Neither Opel nor Mercedes were there.

The Opel team is suffering from delays. “We are counting on testing at Våler (Norway) next weekend plus some private tests,” said team manager Jan Warnestad.

The Mercedes team of Tobias Johansson will not test before the season premiere, although they will be at Knutstorp on the 22:nd of May.

“We have to be ready then and it will be two cars,” said Tobias. “If we haven´t got the fastest cars, at least we´ve got the best looking cars.”

During the Falkenberg test Tommy Kristoffersson ended up fastest.

“What a thing to be back again on top,” Kristofferson said. “Perhaps it came in the last second, but now we´re ready for race.”

Volvo´s Robert Dahlgren was second fastest, only 0.03 seconds behind Tommy. “This is the way racing is supposed to be. It´s great for the championship that its this close,” Robert said.

Robert´s team mate Edward Sandström was fourth quickest but had a scary incident. At 170 km/h Edward spun his car, fortiunately Edward was unhurt and the car only suffered from minor damages. For the STCC-champion Richard Göransson things got a bit worse though.

Göransson went off on to the grass in the new chicane and ended up in the barriers with a 150.000 swedish kronor repair bill. This was the second test accident for Göransson this season and he crashed during the 24 hours of Nürburgring last weekend.

“It´s sad, but it will be very tough this year and this is only the beginning. Just wait until the races starts,” Göransson said after the race.
