Win for Engström at Gelleråsen

Honda-driver Tomas Engström took his first victory of the season today at Gelleråsen. The race was dry at first, but the stewards decided to abort the race when the rain started so all drivers could change to wet tyres. The very wet weather didn´t stop Tomas in his Accord.

“I thought I could win, but not in wet conditions. We haven´t even tried the Accord in wet conditions”, Tomas said to STCC.se

All teams had a certain time to change to rain tyres and make other adjustments. Unfortiunately for the champion Richard Göransson his team took too long time.

“It´s a bit of gambling on how much time you dare to take. But a good time keeps track of the times”, Engström said after the race.

Richard Göransson was in the lead during the race. But because due to that Richards team exeeded the time limit he was given a drive-through.

“I am only disapointed, it is a shame that one is so good that one never gets to win. I am so disapointed”, Richard said after the race.

Richard dropped seven positions and fell down to a eight place. Second place behind Engström went to Peugeot-driver Johan Stureson.

“No, I didn´t believe in this result and after having screwed it up several times I didn´t feel like I deserved it”, Johan said after the race.

Janne “Flash” Nilsson who held pole position finished fourth. Janne held the lead during the first lap but then drove off the track two times.

“I made a beginners mistake after 25 years of race. I missed a brake point”, Janne explained.

When Janne drove off the track, Audi-driver Fredrik Ekblom took the lead. But Ekblom also fell victim to the slippery conditions and went off the track. When the chequred flag came Ekblom was fifth.

The winner from last race, Thed Björk, finished third. Björk continues to lead the championship nine points ahead of the winner of this race Tomas Engström. It is really close in the championship behind Björk. Engström have 27 points, Göransson 26 points in third, Ekblom 25 points in fourth and Stureson 23 in fifth.
